3D metrology
Reliable measurement data for confident quality decisions
Precise 3D metrology provides clarity when evaluating complex components, tight tolerances, and challenging geometries.
In doing so, we document components in a comprehensive, traceable, and reproducible manner—from the prototype to mass production.
This provides you with a reliable basis for component approvals, customer coordination, and stable quality processes.

OPTICAL 3D METROLOGY
Optical 3D metrology for maximum transparency in component evaluation
Our optical 3D measuring systems from ZEISS measure components comprehensively and capture even complex freeform surfaces in their entirety.
Unlike point-based measuring methods, this creates a complete surface representation – deviations are not only detected, but made visible across their entire progression.
This enables faster identification of root causes and a better understanding of correlations.
Automated measurement processes for stable series inspections
We support the programming and optimization of automated measurement workflows for ZEISS ScanBox systems.
This creates efficient and standardized inspection processes for series applications, repeat measurements, and complex measuring tasks.
Automated workflows reduce manual effort, shorten lead times, and ensure stable processes even with high production volumes.

VIRTUAL CLAMPING & PRAFS
Automated and Virtual Fixturing
With Virtual Clamping and PRAFS – the PolyRobotAutomatedFixtureSystem developed by PROTOS-3D – components can be fixtured and evaluated flexibly, reproducibly, and without component-specific measuring fixtures.
This enables real clamping and fixturing scenarios to be simulated under production-near conditions and allows geometric changes to be analyzed comprehensibly.
COLLABORATION & FLEXIBILITY
From measurement task to results evaluation
We accompany projects from the initial inquiry and measurement execution to the final evaluation and discussion of the results. In doing so, we place special emphasis on traceable measurement data, transparent communication, and efficient implementation.
Through close communication with our customers, requirements can be aligned early on, results clearly interpreted, and decisions made with confidence.
This results in reliable solutions tailored to your individual requirements and challenges.
Frequently asked questions about 3D metrology
Which components can be measured?
We measure small and large components – from simple geometries to complex freeform surfaces and demanding parts.
This includes, among others, components from the automotive, aerospace, toolmaking, and industrial applications sectors.
Can measurements also be performed directly at our facility?
Yes. Depending on the task, we carry out measurements directly in your production environment or at your location.
This is particularly useful for large, sensitive, or time-critical components, as it reduces transportation and coordination effort.
What data and results will we receive?
Depending on the task, you will receive structured measurement data and traceable results for further use and evaluation. These include, among others:
- STL data / polygon meshes
- Nominal-actual comparisons
- Color deviation analyses
- Inspection reports and documentation
The data can be used directly for analysis, approval, or development processes.
How quickly can measurement results be provided?
Lead time depends on component size, complexity, and the scope of the measurement task.
Thanks to structured workflows and flexible response times, many projects can be implemented on short notice.
Is 3D metrology also suitable for series and repeat measurements?
Yes. Due to standardized and reproducible workflows, 3D metrology is suitable for single parts as well as series and repeat measurements.
Particularly for recurring inspection tasks, automated measurement routines enable consistent data quality.
What is the advantage over point-based measurement methods?
Optical 3D metrology captures components across the entire surface rather than just at individual measuring points.
This creates a complete representation of the surface. Deviations are not just detected at discrete points, but become visible and traceably evaluable across the entire geometry.
Do you work according to DIN ISO/IEC 17025?
Yes. As a DAkkS-accredited testing laboratory, we operate with documented and traceable testing processes.
